Elijah Likes the Gardening Channel
Jade:
On my way upstairs, I saw Elijah using the scratching post on his cat condo. At least it keeps him from scratching the furniture or chewing on the rug.
I snuggled with Gavin. I loved the fresh baby scent. Today was his birthday.
Gavin was now a toddler. What mischief would he get into?
I found Shaun in the kitchen and kissed him soundly. I was feeling a bit frisky.
I fed Gavin some baby food in the high chair, then put him to bed.
The next day, Lucas left school, clearly upset about something.
Shaun:
Lucas came home from school looking dejected.
Shaun: Lucas, what’s wrong?
Lucas: It’s nothing, Dad.
I sat down across from him at the table.
Shaun: I can tell something is bothering you. Do you want to talk about it?
Lucas looked down at his homework, anguish on his face. I could see that he was wrestling with whether to tell me or not.
He finally looked up at me, tears shining in his eyes.
Lucas: Drew Bennett beat me up at school today. I tried hiding in the library, the locker room, and the science storage closet, but he found me and gave me a pounding. He called me a loser.
Shaun: Did you tell a teacher?
Lucas: I didn’t want to make him more angry at me.
Shaun: Lucas, they have rules in school about bullying, and Drew has broken those rules. Someone needs to let him know that it’s not okay for him to hurt you. He shouldn’t get away with it, or he might do it again to another child.
Lucas looked away for a minute, then glanced at me with resolve.
Lucas: I’ll talk to the teacher on Monday before school. I don’t want anyone else to go through what I did.
Shaun: That’s a good idea. I’m proud of you, Son.
I gave him a big hug and we sat down for dinner. Jade had made spaghetti with veggie sauce. It tasted great and I told her as much.
After dinner, Lucas gave Gavin a bottle. He’s such a good big brother.
Jade:
Shaun had to go to the grocery store to sort out several boxes of puzzle pieces that had spilled onto the floor.
After cleaning up the dishes, I found Elijah sitting in the armchair watching the gardening channel.
I sat next to him and changed it to the cooking channel. I was hoping to learn a new recipe.
I noticed that the window frames needed to be painted. I called a painter to come out tomorrow and give the buildings a fresh coat of paint.
He painted the windows and doors white, and the house and barn hunter green. I also commissioned a contractor to come and pave our driveway and walkways. I think the place looks great!
Gavin learned how to use the potty by himself.
Lucas wanted me to read him a bedtime story. It won’t be long before he stops asking.
I made some strawberry nectar. This machine was so hard to get started. I wish there was a way to make it easier. No worries about getting weak arms.
Gavin had learned to walk. I’ve been thinking about trying for a girl, but the house would get pretty crowded with three kids.
