Precious Joy: Delayed

I Can’t Access My Save!

~texansky~ Well, my 142-day publishing streak is coming to an end. I did something foolish and can’t get back into this save.

I downloaded an EP and SP selector from modthesims. When I ran it, the app crashed, and I had to kill the process with Task Manager.

I had selected to only run the base game to play with a Lepacy game for a while. I played a couple of game weeks of a new game set in Riverview and saved my progress.

I ran the app again to enable all EPs and SPs. When I tried to load Precious Joy, it said items were missing and would be replaced. I quit without saving and tried again with the same result.

So I copied my clean Sims 3 folder that has the full game plus all of my store content (whole store). I only added my mods folder and the latest Precious Joy save.

When I loaded to the game select screen, the game is grayed out, saying I am missing EPs.

I had to de-stress, so hubby and I went out for the evening.

I’m not sure what the program did, other than “hide the unselected ones from the system.”

I am not looking forward to doing a complete uninstall of Sims 3 and reinstalling from discs. The last time it took a full day. It’s likely it will take two to three days if I have to reinstall all my store content again as well.

My game is patched only to 1.67, so I can use EIG in CAW.

I am hoping there is another option, but I work weekends and won’t be able to do anything until Monday.

I apologize to my fans who have been following my Forsythe family through thirteen generations so far.

I’m probably more bummed than anyone over this. I was all ready to send Angelia and Rob to University before I had this wild idea to see if I could use an EP picker with 1.67. Live and learn.

The image above of Tigger playing the keyboard has a special meaning to myself and my husband. I painted it for my him. Correction due to faulty memory: I drew the picture on the wall, but he painted it himself.

He plays keyboard, guitar, bass guitar, and piano. He also composes his own music. You can find his music on YouTube (12 songs). Click the link to visit his channel. Tigg Johnson on YouTube

  1. Oh no!!! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ I am so sorry to hear this. Golly that sucks… ๐Ÿ˜ข I’ve been through this kind of thing before too so I understand how devastating it can feel. ๐Ÿ’—
    Do you happen to have a backup save, or backup Sims 3 folder (which would be better), anywhere on your computer or an external hard drive? I know a lot of progress would be lost that way, but at least not everything would be lost. Let me know. {{{{Hugs}}}}

    1. I reinstalled the game and store content from scratch. Game loads but says some things were missing. Installing exchange lots and patterns and other CC like the ATS typewriter, cameras, vegetable bin, and wicker chest. I’m not sure if it matters that I haven’t installed the Sims by me or others. I am wracking my brain to think of anything else that could “go missing” in a fresh install. Suggestions welcome.

      1. Hmm. Well any time you do a fresh new game folder and add your previous saves to it, anything (like cc and store content) from that previous save will not show up unless you remember to add it to the new game folder before loading up the save. So that’s why it says items are missing and have been replaced. Does that make sense? ๐Ÿ™‚ Hope it helps ya.
I would suggest from here on out that you keep a backup of your Mods folder somewhere on your computer for the times where you need to create a fresh, new game folder. ๐Ÿ˜Š I learned that the hard way, now I backup just about everything from my game. Hee hee!

      2. Em,
Thanks for the info and your suggestions. I did copy the Mods folder from the previous Sims 3 to the new Sims 3 folder. I don’t have much in there. I have one BrntWaffles eyes, some CMAR mods, several mods from Mod the Sims (box of seeds, scribbling pad, gardner service, nointromaxis, noBuildSparkles, serve meals, Eiffel tower, set hour cheat, opportunity-more opportunity callls, no intro, taxi charge, and add any lot size), Nona super hampers, Jinx/Raven Shadow rabbit hole rugs, and most of the NRaas mods,
I have used these mods for years, so I know they are all safe. I have at least one copy of this Mods folder on my external hard drive as well. I’ll try copying that one in case what I did corrupted the one in the game folder.
Most of my CC came from the Exchange or other sites providing Sims3Pack files which I install with the launcher. I have most of that content listed by filename, description, creator, and URL so I can find it again. It wasn’t totally up to date, so I have been updating that file.
I’m also going through all of my purchase history and making a complete list of the items listed (page and # on page, install or don’t install – if part of a set – date and cost). I’m only on page 5 of 16, although I started at page16 originally, so I have completed all of 16 and most of 15 as well. I have 605 items left to document.
Once I have completed this list, I plan to start a completely fresh game, add my clean Mods folder and backup options.ini file. I will then install everything on the store list marked for installation, as well as everything on the custom content list, to be sure I have installed everything. I know to do the bow toe shoes, the milkin’ it dairy corral, the tablet, and the retro model t dining chair first as this will prevent problems with these items in game.
Here’s hoping that will work. If all goes well, I should be up and running by this weekend and ready to publish a new chapter by Monday. Fingers crossed!
