Servis Ultimate Legacy Challenge: Chapter Seventeen
Lisa:
I fed Briella in the high chair and put her to bed.
Adam and I were flirting in the kitchen when I went into labor. He started to panic, so I told him to go get the car so we could go to the hospital.
We called the sitter and headed for the hospital.
Meet Brandon Servis. He is a Cancer and a genius who is a light sleeper. He likes Egyptian music, porcini risotto, and the color hot pink.
Adam played with Lucky, rubbing his belly until his leg started jerking. Lucky liked the attention.
Tamara Donner was snowboarding on the halfpipe at the winter festival. She is 91.
Adam pureed a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for Briella. She ate it all up. She was a sticky mess afterwards and needed a bath.
Meanwhile, I fed Brandon a bottle.
Adam told me about an idea he had for his next romance. I encourage him to sit down and write. He titled it Sleepless in Bridgeport. This will be his tenth book, and his sixth romance.
My sister, Darlene Bunch, got married to Sam Sekemoto. It was a beautiful ceremony. I admit I cried a bit.
Grandma’s second cousin, Bertha, sent Brandon a special gift in the mail. The tag said the rag doll’s name was Cuddles. I put Cuddles in Brandon’s crib.
Adam:
I received a royalty check today for §9,696. Our loan had been paid off last week, so we decided to invest §7,000 of our savings into Divisadero Budget Books.
I received a phone call from my brother-in-law, Ethan Bunch.
Adam: Hello?
Ethan: Hey, Adam. It’s Ethan. I heard that Lisa had a boy this time.
Adam: Yeah, I’m over the moon. I was hoping for a son.
Ethan: What did you name him?
Adam: His name is Brandon. He’s a cute little guy.
Ethan: How does Briella feel about having a little brother?
Adam: When we show him to Briella, she reached out and hugged him. I think they will get along just fine.
Ethan: Anything else going on in your world?
Adam: Lisa and I decided to invest some of my royalties. We are buying stock in both the bookstore and the grocery store.
Ethan: That’s great. You should get regular dividends from them.
Adam: That’s what I was told. So, how are you, Bebe, and the kids doing?
Ethan: Bebe’s doing well. She’s still writing.
Timothy has been dating Parker and Holly Langerak’s daughter, Mimi, and he purchased a car, the La Matea. He has a job at the science building with Lisa and I.
Ingrid and Demetrius are still dating. Her birthday is in two days, and she will be graduating from high school at the end of the week. She wanted to concentrate on her studies and decided not to get a part-time job.
Igor just started dating Leighton and Madison Sekemoto’s daughter, Takisha. They’re both barely out of grammar school.
Adam: It sounds like the kids are doing well. It won’t be long and they’ll all be out on their own.
Ethan: Yeah. I’m starting to feel old. I’d better go. Take care of yourself and your family.
Adam: I will. Goodbye.
I hung up and invested another §7,000 into EverFresh Delights Supermarket.
When I got home, Lucky wanted to play, so I got the tug-of-war rope. He is strong for such a little guy. My arm will be sore for a while.
I found Lisa watching the gardening channel in her pajamas.
Adam: It’s almost 5:30. Have you been in your pajamas all day?
Lisa: Yeah. I didn’t feel like getting dressed today.
Adam: Is everything okay?
Lisa: I’ve been feeling sad since Brandon was born. For some reason, things just seem worse today. I didn’t sleep well last night.
Adam: I’m sorry to hear that. Is there anything I can do?
Lisa: Not really.
Adam: Come here.
I took her hand, pulled her up off the couch, and wrapped her in a warm embrace.
She had tears in her eyes after the hug. I gently wiped them away and gave her a kiss.
Lisa: Thank you for being there for me.
Adam: I wouldn’t be anywhere else. I love you.
Lisa: I love you, too.
