Loni Tends the Bees

Week 7: Saturday

Loni:

I went to feed Phoenix and Charlotte followed me into the nursery. She wanted to check out the new baby. I squatted and held Phoenix out so Charlotte could see him. She wagged her tail and licked him on the cheek.

After having a bottle on the floor, September was busy reading toddler books. She doesn’t talk much, and she hasn’t even tried to walk. I should encourage her to walk and teach her to talk. She’s barely one, so she has time yet before I begin to worry about her development.

Once the children were settled, I ran outside to take care of the chickens and milk the cow.

Since Christian was busy working in the basement garden, I decided to try my hand at harvesting honey and tending the bees. The honey and honeycomb were the best quality, but I didn’t get stung, so there is that.

The outdoor garden was still dormant. Winter starts tomorrow, so we won’t have any outdoor crops until spring. Charlotte was napping in the garden.

Christian:

I finished working the indoor garden and headed for the nursery. I snuggled with Phoenix and rocked with him for a little bit before I had to change his dirty diaper.

I noticed that September had used the potty, so I emptied it and took out the trash.

Toulouse Pinkerton was visiting again. She was playing with a stray dog.

Loni and Charlotte were horsing around on the side of the house.

I can’t believe how energetic she is at her age. I adopted her as a puppy over 40 years ago when I was in my late 20s. She probably won’t be with us for much longer. That thought saddens me.

Loni:

Saturday evening after dinner, I did some laundry and the washing machine decided to break. I fixed it right away and mopped up the puddle.

Christian had made some cookies and was reading The Wight Wail. I put the cookies away and went to milk the cow. I was able to make some cheese. I put the best eggs and cheese in the refrigerator and gave the rest to Christian. We now have a dozen eggs and ten wedges of cheese.

After putting September and Phoenix down for the night, we headed for bed. It was after 11 pm when we fell asleep. Charlotte was looking out the window toward the Bedlington house.
