Marsden Farm – 18

New Label is M&P

Week 5: Thursday

Christian: We have nearly §10,000 right now. How much did you want to pay on the loan?
Loni: Well, we’ve got the barn builders coming today, and the cows arriving tomorrow, so we probably shouldn’t pay more than half of the remaining balance. I prefer to keep a buffer of §5,000 for unexpected expenses.
Christian: I agree. Stop by the business offices tomorrow and pay §2,500 on the principle plus the §50 interest.
Loni: All right. Let’s go take care of our chores and the crops and plants. Would you take the crops to the consignment store after taking care of the bees? I can handle the garden and crops today.
Christian: Sure. I’d like to get away from the farm for a bit.

Angel caught an Iridescent Shieldtail Snake which sold for §900.

Loni:
We lost one peach tree in our orchard, and some grape vines in the basement. After disposing of the dead plants, I replaced them with better quality seeds.

After saving the best seeds of each variety, I sorted the best fruits and stored them in the nectar fruit bin. The remainder were placed in cold storage until we visited Aleister’s.

I wanted to make a refreshing drink from lemons and cucumbers, but I wasn’t able to use the cucumbers. So, I decided to make some M&P Apple Nectar instead. After squishing the fruit, I started the machine, took a shower, and went to bed.

Christian:
After returning from Aleister’s, I went down to the sub-basement to make some nectar, but Loni beat me to it as the machine was humming right along. While I was down there, I decided to check out the plaque on the wall in the basement near where the nectar making machine used to be. Strange, there’s nothing written here. I should look around.

I went into the small room with the breaker box in it and started inspecting the walls. One of the walls felt different, colder.

Marsden-18-2

Upon further inspection, I discovered a hidden door! It rotated from the middle and revealed another room with stone walls and a gravel floor. There was a ladder on the right wall near the back.

I carefully checked the sturdiness of the ladder. It was sound, so I climbed down into the darkness. The light barely reached this chamber.

Marsden-18-5

There was a plaque on the wall that I could barely read. I stepped closer to the plaque and my foot kicked something that bounced off the wall with a clatter. There were skeletons on the floor! I quickly read the plaque. In messy handwriting a message was scrawled: “No one will ever know about my secret!”

This place gave me the creeps.

Marsden-18-8

I immediately climbed back up the ladders and I heard crying outside. I went around the corner toward the sound, and I found a teenage ghost morning at Fred Marsden’s grave.

Marsden-18-9

I introduced myself. Her name was Irene Rouses. We chatted for a while and got to know one another. We talked about her family – father Pete, mother Monique, and younger twins Carol and Jeremy. I asked her how she died. She said that she died of blunt force trauma. Suddenly, she transformed into a yellow fog and disappeared into the floorboards of the porch.

Over the course of the night, I chanced to meet and speak with the ghosts of the entire Rouses family. It seems they all died of blunt force trauma. I have no idea who the murderer was.

I went to bed, still pondering my next course of action about my find in the basement.

Loni:
Something woke me up and I went outside. I witnessed the death of Chuck Hobble’s horse, Shadow. Such a shame. Chuck has had this horse for over 50 years.

I went to back to bed, saddened by the loss.

Week 5: Friday

Loni:
When I went outside to feed the chickens and gather the eggs, I heard a truck approaching. Once I had tended the chickens, I walked past the crops toward the new barn. The farmer was leading three young milk cows toward the barn. I helped him put them in their stalls and stood back to check out the barn in the daylight. Christopher joined me and held my hand.

Marsden-18-13

The farmer explained to us how to milk the cows. Christian was the first to try.

Christian: That wasn’t too difficult. You can milk them this afternoon. They need to be milked twice a day.
Loni: The farmer told me how to make cheese from the milk before you got out here. We need two bottles of milk to make a wedge of cheese.
Christian: Have I told you lately how beautiful you are?

Marsden-18-16

Loni: Just about every day.

Marsden-18-17

Christian:
I pulled Loni in for a deep kiss, then stepped back and took her hand.

Christian: Loni, we’ve been working this farm together now for a while. I’ve come to care for you deeply. Would you like to make our relationship official and become my girlfriend?

Marsden-18-20

Loni: I would like that.

She leaned forward and kissed me tenderly, still holding my hand.

Marsden-18-21

Loni: I better go to the business office to pay on our loan. They will be closing soon.
Christian: Have a safe trip. I’ll see you when you get home.

I stopped by the business building to make the payment. It was about ten minutes to close when I left the building. We will pay the rest off after the cows are settled in and our finances are stable again.

When I returned, Christian had prepared mac and cheese for dinner. We each grabbed some and sat down to eat.

Loni: I got a call from a law firm in town. They are handling Tate Curley’s estate.
Christian: I didn’t even know he had passed on.
Loni: Neither did I. They are reading his will Monday at 16:00. I am expected to attend.
Christian: Do you want me to come with you?
Loni: I would appreciate the support. Did you know that Tate was Dad’s Army buddy from the war? Dad provided cover fire so his squad could get on the chopper.
Christian: No, I didn’t. Is that why Tate let you live on his property?
Loni: Yes. I’ve been thinking about moving my father’s grave to a proper cemetery at the back of the property. I’d like it to have a white metal fence with two gates.
Christian: That’s a good idea. I can get some fencing tomorrow.

Final balance: §9,423

Difference: §3,020 decrease

Loan amount: §2,500 with §50 interest payable every Friday until the loan is paid off.
