Camping Challenge Attempts

First Challenge Attempt:

On my first play-through, I failed due to a lack of funds on the final day.

I will try again to see if it is possible to meet this challenge before becoming an adult. If not, I may change the age requirement to a long lifespan. My Sim had a sleeping bag, fire pit, and outhouse as well as the other items required for the challenge.

Second Challenge Attempt:

I completed the second challenge by week 3, day 5 (19 days) on my second play-through.

My Sim had a bench, and fire pit, but did not have an outhouse, so she had to go to the 28 Hour Fitness Gym to use the facilities. She would also grab something to eat from the fridge while there. I did use a plant from University Life in my garden and used the gem cutter at Aleister’s Elixir Shop from Supernatural. She would then consign the gems as well as any metals she had sent to be smelted. She had a cat to stalk for prey.

I don’t remember much about this play-through, but she was registered as a self-employed writer and tended her garden to sell the harvests.

Third Challenge with Play-Through:

I completed the third challenge by week 3, day 4 (18 days).

I chose Glenvale County and added a 40×40 lot down the street from the stadium. I added the 7×7 garden fence and put tiles around the inside perimeter to limit the garden area to 5×5. I added a magnolia tree, a sleeping bag, outhouse, fire pit, bicycle and rack, and a pet bowl and toy crate.

After purchasing the lot and setting my funds to §50, I started my Sim out by selling the university basket, the time portal, and their camera. He purchased a sprinkler for the garden and a scratching post, and then adopted an adult female cat with the hunter trait.

I only used base game plants, with the exception of the ones my Sim received when learning gardening. My rule for those was that once those plants died, they could not be replanted. Other seeds collected that were not base game were sold, with the exception of unknown seeds. Those were planted to see what they became. The same rules applied to them. If they were not base-game, they were not replanted.

The most profitable base-game plants are lime trees, garlic, flame fruit, and life fruit. My Sim planted three apple trees using apples harvested from the park. The rest of the apples and limes were saved to eat until his trees produced a harvest. He also went to the grocer and purchased two lettuce and two tomatoes to plant in the garden, and some alley catfish to roast on the fire pit for when he was on his home lot.

I then sent him to the library to read gardening books until he reached level five. He bought enough limes from the grocer to plant five trees. As soon as he reached level seven, he purchased and planted five garlic plants.

My Sim also spent time on the computer at the library writing books. As soon as he was able, he registered as a self-employed writer.

The cat would be sent to hunt each day until she caught three things to sell. The rest of the day she was able to do whatever she wanted. As she increased her hunting skill, she would hunt on her own sometimes.

Insects were donated to the science facility and the critters and other finds were sold via the inventory. My Sim also found some gems and metals which were sent to be cut or smelted. These were also sold. He identified the space rocks and sold them. He also did some dumpster diving and found mostly insects and a few other items.

Once he had §5,000, he was able to build his 5×5 home. It had a refrigerator, one prep counter, a sink, and a stove on the back wall. The cat dish was moved inside and placed next to the stove. A small table was put in the corner with two chairs to the right of the door. The bookshelf was placed in the center of the right wall. He bought a cat bed and placed it to the left of the door. The sleeping bag was moved inside and placed in the center of the left wall next to the cat bed. He had about §1,500 left to add to the §10,000 needed to add a bedroom, bathroom, and living area. He placed his produce in the refrigerator, including the remaining alley catfish, keeping only three apples for eating if he wasn’t home.

He spent his time gardening and writing, as well as visits to the grocer, the library, and the science facility. My Sim completed a novel on Saturday of week 2 and he received royalties of §2,145 which helped him complete his three-bedroom home. He completed four books before the end of the challenge, and currently receives a total of §2,723 in royalties.

He would go to the grocer an average of every other day to sell fruits and vegetables. If his cat caught an expensive insect, he would go to the science facility to donate all of the insects in his inventory. His last trip included a rainbow beetle and he received over §5,000 for all of them.

After he earned another §10,000, he was able to add the bedroom, bathroom, and living area. The bedroom was fully furnished, so he sold the sleeping bag, and the outhouse. He added a basement and added the floor and wall coverings. When he was able, he added the inside walls and wall coverings and outfitted the bathroom. Eventually, he was able to furnish the basement to complete the challenge.

At the end of the challenge, the garden had one lemon tree outside the garden. He did not plant more apple trees as the garden was full. There are five lime trees, five garlic plants, two cheese plants, two eggplants, five bell pepper plants, and five onion plants. Bell peppers and onions were the next highest paying plants in the base game. The only plants in the garden not producing a harvest were the cheese and egg plants.

My Sim had §3,725 after completing the challenge. He had earned 23,888 lifetime happiness points. His cat even had enough points to purchase the pet hygienator.

I enjoyed playing it, but to complete the challenge, I had to keep my Sim gardening and working on his writing for most of each day. He did have breaks to read or play games on the computer for fun. He read a total of eight books during the challenge.

My Sim’s completed three-bedroom home:

I upgraded the shower in the upstairs bathroom when I build the basement.

I could have added more furniture, since he had enough funds.

Fourth Challenge:

I completed the fourth challenge in ten days.

I chose Sunset Valley and placed my Sim on the 30×30 lot next to Jamie Jolina.

I played Christian Payne and his dog Charlotte. She unearthed a gigantic space rock which Christian identified as a rare form of space rock. It sold for over §30,000, so he went from a 5×5 to a fully-furnished three-bedroom home in one day.

NOTE: I did set the summer season to 19 days, and the other seasons to 3 days to take advantage of the weather for gardening.

I play with all of the expansion packs and stuff packs, as well as all of the store content, so it’s hard to play bare-bones on my computer as I am on version 1.67 and can’t select which expansions to play, so I get other seeds, gems, and metals that weren’t in the base game.
