Marsden Farm – 10

Christian Moves In

Week 4: Monday

I fed the chickens (§5) and harvested an exotic egg. I sold it to the neighbor for §1500.

Angel caught a water beetle. I noticed that she had destroyed her scratching post, so I replaced it for §30. The bills were another §225.

I had bought a new tub with a shower for §1725. The plumber hauled away the old tub and shower. He paid me §845 for both.

~texansky~ A neighborhood horse wanted to nuzzle Angel, but she wasn’t having it.

Loni:
Christian arrived just as I finished tending to the outside garden. I went inside to wash up.

~texansky~ Christian didn’t follow Loni inside, but went over and sat on the tractor. He didn’t start it up, and I wondered what he was doing.

Screenshot-200

When Loni found him on the tractor, he took her on a hayride! I guess he wanted to try to cheer her up.

Screenshot-201

Loni:
I was so touched by the hayride that I asked Christian to spend the night so we could have more time together. He said yes.

Screenshot-202

We had salad for dinner. We chatted for a while and I asked him to move in. He agreed.

Screenshot-203

This may have been a mistake, as his dog Charlotte had a litter of FOUR puppies. Christian and I had to fetch the puppies as they are too small to climb the stairs. After we had all of them rounded up and in the house, we headed for bed. Christian slept in Dad’s old bed.

~texansky~ Can you find all of the puppies?

Screenshot-206

Christian added §5000 to the piggy bank.

Balance now: §10,645

Loan amount: §10,000 with §50 interest payable every Friday until the loan is paid off.

Week 4: Tuesday

After breakfast, we went downstairs to tend to the gardens there. I weeded the plants and let Christian do the rest. He is not able to weed yet, and he needs lots of practice gardening as he currently has no skill.

Screenshot-207

Loni: Christian, are you happy working in the political career?
Christian: It pays the bills.
Loni: So you aren’t happy. You love being outdoors and you are good with plants. Maybe you should quit your job and join me in running this farm?
Christian: That does sound like a better fit for me. I’ll do it!
~texansky~ Christian stopped gardening long enough to make a phone call.
Christian: Yes? This is Christian Payne. I’m not coming in to work today. As a matter of fact, I am quitting. I’ve found something that is a lot more fulfilling. No, I’m sure. I understand. Goodbye.

Screenshot-204

Christian: They wanted to know if I was sure. They said they wouldn’t be able to hold my position if I changed my mind.
Loni: Oh, Christian, I am so happy for you. You won’t regret it.

Loni:
I just finished weeding the outside plants when Benni called to chat.
Benni: How are you, girl?
Loni: I’m good. I’ve been seeing Christian Payne lately. Sorry I haven’t always taken your calls.
Benni: I’m sure you had your reasons. Is that the guy that just moved into the neighborhood last week?
Loni: Yes. He’s a sweetheart. I asked him to move in with me and he agreed.
Benni: Get out! He’s a hunk. How lucky are you?
Loni: I’m not so sure. He brought a mama dog and her four puppies! If I had known about them, I might not have asked him.
Benni: Four? You must be going mad from all the yapping.
Loni: I try to stay outside or in the basement most of the time. Of course, then I have to keep mopping the floor.
Benni: So, how serious is it between you two? Are you going to be getting married?

Screenshot-208

Loni: I don’t know. We’re taking things slow right now. It’s enough that he agreed to leave politics and work the farm with me. We’ll see where it goes. He’s my best friend, second to you, of course.
Benni (laughing): Now I know you’re lying through your teeth.
Loni: I wouldn’t go that far. How are things going between you and Chuck Hobble?
Benni: Okay, right now. Listen, I’ve got to go. Work on your relationship with Christian.
Loni: I am. I’ll keep you posted.
Benni: You better!

Christian: I filled the pet bowl for §8. I’m going to go out to the chicken coop to feed the chickens (§5) and gather eggs.
Loni: I’ll go with you. I want to show you how to harvest the honey and honeycomb from the beekeeping boxes.
Christian: I always wondered how that works. I can’t wait to try.

Loni:
We sold the bad honey and bad honeycomb for §39. I had picked an Indian Blanket flower yesterday and sold it for §320.

Loni: I’ve got a lot of produce to consign at Aleister’s. We can go there today and consign everything at once.
Christian: That sounds good. I should probably stop by the City Hall and register as a self-employed gardener.
Loni: I have to donate the bugs that Angel has caught to science. Why don’t we do that first and meet at Aleister’s?
Christian: All right. Let me get washed up and I’ll be on my way.
I smiled at Christian as he left the room. I am so glad he decided to help me with the farm.

I ran into Tate Curley downtown today.
Loni: Mr. Curley, how are you today?

Screenshot-226

Tate: I’m doing all right.
Loni: I was at the library when your wife, Esme died. I’m so sorry.
Tate: Thank you. I’m sorry to hear about your father.
Loni: Dad and I never had the opportunity to thank you for providing us with a home. I want you to know how grateful we are. I did my best to clean the place up for you.
Tate: It was my pleasure to help you out of a difficult situation. Esme and I contemplated moving out there, but we never had children to help us with the work.
Loni: I’ve got a garden planted and producing a good crop.

Screenshot-227

Tate: I saw what you have done with the place when I came over for your birthday party. It looks so much better. You’ve done a great job.

Screenshot-228

Loni: Thank you.
Tate: I’ve got to do some shopping before the store closes. It was good seeing you.
Loni: You, too. Again, thank you so much.

I called Christian.
Loni: I’m not going to make it to Aleister’s today, as I ran into Tate Curley. I don’t know if you knew it, but he owns the property and let Dad and I live there rent-free when we found ourselves homeless.
Christian: I didn’t know that.
Loni: Without him, I don’t know what would have happened to us. I am forever in his debt. I’ll have to go to Aleister’s tomorrow.
Christian: City Hall wouldn’t let me register as a gardener. They said I needed more experience. So I went to the library to read a book on gardening. I was just heading home.
Loni: I’ll see you there.

~texansky~ Later that day at the farm…

Christian: I received §353 for metals and gems I had consigned the other day.
Loni: The science lab paid me §1121 for my bug collection. Why don’t you give me your stuff and I’ll consign it all tomorrow.
Christian: I put it all in the vegetable storage bin.
Loni: Okay. I’ll get it in the morning.

Christian and I spent the rest of the afternoon arranging for the puppies to be picked up for adoption.

Loni: I can’t believe how quiet it is in here now.
Christian: I guess I got used to the noise.
Loni: I’m heading for bed. Goodnight, Christian.
Christian: Goodnight, Loni.

The piggy bank is getting very full: §12,465.

Week 4: Wednesday

Christian:
I went out to feed the chickens (§5) and collect the eggs. I found a rare exotic egg which I sold for §1500. While I was there, Loni came out to harvest the honey.

Screenshot-210

Christian: Loni, Charlotte brought me some compendium. I sent it off to be smelted. It cost §40.
Loni: Okay. I’ll watch the mail for its return. We should go water the plants downstairs before we go anywhere.

Screenshot-209

Christian: I called City Hall and they said I’ve got enough experience. I’m going to go down there and register as a self-employed gardener.
Loni: I’m headed for Aleister’s.
Christian: Don’t forget the stuff in the vegetable storage bin.
Loni: Thanks for reminding me. I’ll go down and get it.
Christian: When I get back, I’m going to plant these seeds that I got.

Loni:
Angel caught an Indian Roofed turtle valued at §96.

I sold §68 worth of bad quality honey, honeycomb, and eggs, and consigned the rest.

After fertilizing the garden I headed upstairs to listen to the music box before bed. I really like this song. I can see Mom and Dad dancing to this song on their 25th wedding anniversary. Now they’re both gone.

Screenshot-214

~texansky~ Angel had her birthday and is now an elder. She decided to celebrate by sleeping on the prep counter.

Screenshot-215

Christian: I finished planting the seeds and decided to weed the downstairs garden before going to bed.

On my way to bed, Charlotte begged me for a treat. How could I resist that cute, furry face?

Current piggybank balance: §14,084.

Loan amount: §10,000 with §50 interest payable every Friday until the loan is paid off.
